Global defense spending rose by 2.9 percent in 2025. Global defense spending rises 2.9 percent as countries increase military budgets worldwide. According to reports, nations spent a total of 2,887 billion dollars on defense during the year.

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute SIPRI released the data. It showed that this marks the 11th consecutive year of growth. Moreover, defense spending reached 2.5 percent of global GDP, the highest level since 2009.

The report highlighted that the United States, China, and Russia remained the top spenders. Together, they accounted for 1,471 billion dollars. In addition, this represents about 51 percent of total global military spending.

US defense spending dropped by 7.5 percent in 2025. It fell to 954 billion dollars due to reduced military aid for Ukraine. However, analysts noted that future budgets may rise sharply, with projections reaching up to 1.5 trillion dollars by 2027.

Meanwhile, Europe saw a 14 percent increase in defense spending, reaching 864 billion dollars. In contrast, Israel and Iran reduced their military budgets.
